Celebrating 100 Years of The New Yorker with a Limited-Edition Chess Set by Printworks

Renowned for its iconic cartoons and thought-provoking cover art, The New Yorker has made a lasting impact on visual storytelling and cultural commentary.

This collaboration beautifully blends The New Yorker’s artistic heritage with our vision of transforming everyday objects into extraordinary pieces of art.

In 2025, The New Yorker marks a century of shaping culture and design since its founding in 1925. To celebrate this iconic milestone, we partnered with the magazine to create a limited-edition chess set that captures the vibrant spirit of New York City in a playful and artistic tribute.

The chess pieces have been reimagined as symbols of New York City’s vibrant culture. The ever-watchful Statue of Liberty serves as the Queen, pigeons take on the role of Knights, and the yellow cabs that zip through the city streets are cleverly transformed into Pawns.

Designed by Christoph Niemann, a renowned artist and longtime contributor to The New Yorker, these 3D pieces capture the vibrant energy of the city in each piece.
